A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Saturday at 4 p.m. until 10 a.m. Sunday for North Jersey and surrounding areas.
Mixed precipitation is expected (see second image above) with a total accumulation of 2 to 4 inches of snowfall for most of the area.
Ice accumulations of one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch are expected.
With roads becoming snow and ice covered, travel conditions will be hazardous. Gusty winds of up to 30 mph on Sunday, snow, and ice accumulation may bring down tree limbs and power lines and could lead to widespread outages.
Snow will arrive after 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 on a cloudy day with the high reaching the mid-30s and wind-chill values between 20 and 25.
Precipitation will be the heaviest overnight into Sunday and gradually late Sunday afternoon. Heavy rain will mix in at times during the afternoon.
The storm will be followed by a freeze-up as a blast of Arctic Air will bring the coldest air of the season.
The overnight low Sunday night into Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 21, will be in the single digits.
Monday will be mostly sunny and frigid, with a high temperature in the lower teens.
Tuesday, Jan. 22 will be mostly sunny with a high in the upper-20s.
